League Race – 24 October

On Saturday, we used the 10 km route in Jonkershoek again. It was a beautiful day and our new banners were up for the first time.  Thanks very much to Wentzel for organising and collecting them and for JC who managed to convince Pedal Power to sponsor these.
Well done to all the riders who improved on their personal best times and welcome to all the new riders.

League Race – Saturday 22 August

We tried out a new venue for this Saturday’s race.  It has been a difficult decision to not go to Joostenberg, but for safety reasons we simply don’t have any choice. The plan is to experiment with 2 or 3 possible options over the next few months, and to then settle on the most suitable one.
We had a lovely day out in the Jonkershoek valley just outside Stellenbosch. Starting at the “Ride In” cafe situated half-way up the valley and turning around just before the gate to the Nature Reserve. The route is just short of 10 kilometers out-and-back (see MAP for directions).

The turnout was fairly small, but those who were there were all very happy with the route if used in the Time Trail format.  The get together at the Ride In Cafe was also extremely pleasant. The route will not be suitable for road racing so we are still searching in all earnesty for an alternative route.
The September Race’s date coincides again with the WPSAPD athletics club trials and only the juniors will be be taking part at Coetzenburg.
Our next LEAGUE Race (24 October) will be the official Time Trial and will be held at the Jonkershoek Venue.

League Race – Saturday 20 June

A very beautiful albeit chilly day brought four tricyclist, three bicyclists, two handcyclists and a tandem pair out of the warm feathers for this race.  Unfortunately Heinrich and Eugene had to turn around due to a broken chain.  Adriaan, for the first time, braved the 16km and did very well.  The tricycles had a good competitive race as usual and Denzyl just missed his pb. It was great to see the motivated and always smiling Catherine on the road. Welcome here with us.

League Race – Saturday 23 May

Although the numbers seems to be dwindling, there were some very good riding on Saturday.  The juniors surprised again with Willie and Matthew both riding personal bests.  Although Andrew had a hard time today, he ended up with some splendid company for the last few kilometers – as evident on the photo.

Lovely to see the spirit of companionship like this on the road

The Craig/Ernst race is always lovely to watch.  Ernst is quickly getting back into handcycling after his successful international wheelchair racing events.

Great also to see Denzel and Simon as well as the new tandem pair, Heinrich and Eugene, improving on their pb’s.  Some great riding in great conditions.

We really hope to have more support for this monthly event.

Eugene (on his new blue bike) Denzil, Russel, David and Jason (tandem under the hour) and Craig all improved their personal best times! Well done to all of them.  A very big welcome to the new handcyclist Mark Swartz and tricyclist Hillary Lane.

League Race – 22 November

The last League race for 2014 was held on Saturday.  We had a lovely, beautiful day with quite a few support riders joining.  Zandile has ‘The Argus’ in her sights and is motivated by, and motivating her colleagues to take up the challenge.  Good luck to  you all.

Two juniors Andrew and Matthew, braved the 16km route and did very well.

There was great action on the 35 km route with 3 tandems vs Craig!!  and some of the support riders being missed on the turning point !!  but hey, all is well that ends well.

Best wishes to you all for a peaceful, restful and cycling holiday and may you all be richly blessed.

Take good care of yourselves and your loved ones.

UCI World Championships – Greenville USA

A victorious Ernst van Dyk winning the 2014 World Championship for H5 Men
A victorious Ernst winning the 2014 World Champion titleVery well done to Team SA at the WorldChampionships in the USA early in September.  The joy of having two World Champs coming home with the coveted rainbow jersey ends a very exciting season on the international circuit for 2014.  Ernst van Dyk had the ‘prefect race’ and made us mighty proud.  And Pieter du Preez  also showed what can be done with determination and dedication.  WELL DONE TO THE TWO WORLD CHAMPS!!

The rest of the team did well too and brought a basket full of dearly earned point home.  Justine did her usual better than best in coming first in both the road and TT races but did not qualify for a medal (or the rainbow jersey) because there were no other H2 women taking part.  Stuart did a fantastic 4th place in the road race and personal best par excellence. Goldy, Madre and Yusthin earned their share of the points.  Well done to you all.

Please see CyclingSA website for more detailed reports and full results.

Thanks to JC and the rest of the team management for the sterling job in managing the tour so professionally.
