A very beautiful albeit chilly day brought four tricyclist, three bicyclists, two handcyclists and a tandem pair out of the warm feathers for this race. Unfortunately Heinrich and Eugene had to turn around due to a broken chain. Adriaan, for the first time, braved the 16km and did very well. The tricycles had a good competitive race as usual and Denzyl just missed his pb. It was great to see the motivated and always smiling Catherine on the road. Welcome here with us.
Although the numbers seems to be dwindling, there were some very good riding on Saturday. The juniors surprised again with Willie and Matthew both riding personal bests. Although Andrew had a hard time today, he ended up with some splendid company for the last few kilometers – as evident on the photo.
The Craig/Ernst race is always lovely to watch. Ernst is quickly getting back into handcycling after his successful international wheelchair racing events.
Great also to see Denzel and Simon as well as the new tandem pair, Heinrich and Eugene, improving on their pb’s. Some great riding in great conditions.
We really hope to have more support for this monthly event.

What a good way to start the year! A perfect day and amazing rides. Good to see you all back in the saddle. Special welcome back to Thomas after his marathon hospital stays and huge operations. Adriaan Groenewalt, Andrew Gadd and Matthew Brooks all rode beautifully and improved their personal bests. Tasreeq did very well for a first time on the 16km. Toni on her new bike (thanks JC for all the assistance and persistence) did a very good time – also first time round on the 16km route. Eugene (on his new blue bike) Denzil, Russel, David and Jason (tandem under the hour) and Craig all improved their personal best times! Well done to all of them. A very big welcome to the new handcyclist Mark Swartz and tricyclist Hillary Lane.
The last League race for 2014 was held on Saturday. We had a lovely, beautiful day with quite a few support riders joining. Zandile has ‘The Argus’ in her sights and is motivated by, and motivating her colleagues to take up the challenge. Good luck to you all.
Two juniors Andrew and Matthew, braved the 16km route and did very well.
There was great action on the 35 km route with 3 tandems vs Craig!! and some of the support riders being missed on the turning point !! but hey, all is well that ends well.
Best wishes to you all for a peaceful, restful and cycling holiday and may you all be richly blessed.
Take good care of yourselves and your loved ones.

A victorious Ernst van Dyk winning the 2014 World Championship for H5 Men
Very well done to Team SA at the WorldChampionships in the USA early in September. The joy of having two World Champs coming home with the coveted rainbow jersey ends a very exciting season on the international circuit for 2014. Ernst van Dyk had the ‘prefect race’ and made us mighty proud. And Pieter du Preez also showed what can be done with determination and dedication. WELL DONE TO THE TWO WORLD CHAMPS!!
The rest of the team did well too and brought a basket full of dearly earned point home. Justine did her usual better than best in coming first in both the road and TT races but did not qualify for a medal (or the rainbow jersey) because there were no other H2 women taking part. Stuart did a fantastic 4th place in the road race and personal best par excellence. Goldy, Madre and Yusthin earned their share of the points. Well done to you all.
Please see CyclingSA website for more detailed reports and full results.
Thanks to JC and the rest of the team management for the sterling job in managing the tour so professionally.
